Final

Fall 2020 Final - all edited with Photoshop Express.

Taken on a Samsung Galaxy S9
4.3mm - ISO50 - f/2.4 - 1/400s

Taken with a Canon EOS Rebel T3

Taken with a Canon EOS Rebel T3
18 mm - ISO800 - f/5.6 - 1/4000s
With this shot, I definitely had my aperture settings messed up. My ISO was too high and my shutter speed was way too fast, so I ended up not letting hardly any light into the lens and had to work hard in post to get this picture to even sort of turn out.

Taken with a Canon EOS Rebel T3
18 mm - ISO200 - f/3.5 - 1/30s
Again, too high of an ISO and too fast of shutter speed. I like the composition of this photo and hope to get a better shot when there is less snow.

55mm - ISO400 - f/5.6 - 1/1600 s
The red can!! Ruins the shot for me. I liked this shot until we learned about the rules of dominance. My boyfriend drinks coca-cola like it's water and had set the can down while he climbed. Now in my eyes, it sticks out like a sore thumb. I also wish I had used a lower aperture to bring the focus more to my dog and blur some of the background.

Taken with a Canon EOS Rebel T3
30mm - ISO100 - f/4.5 - 1/100s
The red can strikes again. I like this picture but I think I needed a lower aperture to keep my boyfriend in focus.

Too much ISO, but it was a photo taken spur of the moment as I saw this goose take off.

Again, too fast of shutter speed. I'm not sure why I had my settings the way they were that day, but at least post was somewhat successful.

Week 13 - Final Blog

This was a very difficult class for me. I wanted to take it to learn how to use a camera and shoot some nice pictures and I think I am leaving this class with at least some knowledge on those fronts.

I think I appreciate photography a lot more now. It has been so hard for me to take photos that I think look good this semester so I have major envy for people who seem more natural with their cameras.

I think the rules of dominance really helped and are the main thing I will take away from this class.

I don't really take a lot of pictures in my personal life. My social media accounts have some photos to keep up with my friends and family, but nothing spectacular, but I hope to keep taking photos and change my social media feeds.

Week 12 Blog

I took this shot up around Zimmerman Park, to the west of the park and down a few levels. There are a few old wrecked cars up there and I really wanted to get some pictures with them.

The closest I got to turn out was this. I took out some noise using filters in Photoshop Express and added a black and white filter to try and make it look better.

Week 11 Blog

Some edits:

1/400 sec. f/2.4 4.3mm ISO 50

Taken on the Bangtail Divide trail near Bozeman. I've played with cropping out the left side where there's some blowout in the clouds but it did not look right.

1/100 sec. f/5.6 55mm ISO160

Phipps Park - I took the editing suggestions given in the share 2 and critique and I like how it turned out, but I may try and get back up to Phipps and retake the shot.

1/5000 sec. f/1.7 4.2mm ISO 40

This was on the east shore of the Great Salt Lake last fall; this is one that I would like to print for the show but I haven't been able to find a composition for it that I'm happy with.

Week 10 Blog

I recently started using Photoshop Express for editing since I can't justify buying Lightroom and haven't had much free time to hunt down a campus computer that has it downloaded.

I think Express is pretty easy to use and I've been okay with the results so far, but it has made me realize how crappy the pictures I take actually are. I'm hoping to start getting some photos to turn out soon so I can end up with some okay pictures at the end of the semester.

I'm not sure why taking a photograph is so difficult for me, but it seems like whether I'm using my smartphone or the Canon I have checked out I can't get it right.
